Who we are
The “Porto dell’Etna” website is managed by Marina di Riposto â Porto dell’Etna SpA, with headquarters in Via Duca del Mare, 95018 Riposto (CT), VAT number 03425760877, in the person of the legal representative pro tempore. This company is the Data Controller of your personal data under the GDPR, that is, the entity that decides how and why your data is used. The site is an information showcase: it tells the history of the port, presents the services offered and provides a contact form. We do not sell products or services online and never collect personal data beyond what is strictly necessary.

What data do we collect?
We collect personal data only in the following situations, always at your initiative. The contact form When you choose to send us a message through the form on the site, you provide us with your first name, last name, email address and the text of the message. No other data is requested or collected through this channel. Filling out the form is completely optional: you can browse the site freely without having to tell us anything.
Phone and Whatsapp
If you prefer to contact us by phone or via the WhatsApp widget, communication takes place through the channels of the respective operators (telephone operators, Meta Platforms Inc.).
In these cases, the data passes through third-party services that have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to consult directly.
Navigation data (technical)
Like any website, our server automatically collects some technical data while browsing: IP address, browser type, operating system, pages visited and access time. This data does not directly identify you and is used solely to ensure the proper functioning of the site and its security.
No profiling: We do not create user profiles and do not use automated profiling tools. Your data is never cross-referenced to derive information about your behavior or preferences.
Types of treatment
The treatments to which data are subject are defined in art. 4 n. 2) of the Reg. EU 2016/679, which we report below for ease of reference: collection, registration, organisation, preservation, consultation, processing, modification, selection, extraction, comparison, use, interconnection, blocking, communication, deletion and destruction of data. âPersonal Dataâ means any information concerning an identified or identifiable natural person with particular reference to an identifier such as name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or one or more characteristic elements of his or her physical, physiological, psychic, economic, cultural or social identity.
Why do we use your data?
We use the data you provide us exclusively for three purposes, all related to the normal management of the site:
- Respond to your requests. When you write to us via form, we use your email to respond. Your message is read only by the staff responsible for managing communications.
- Ensure safety and operation. Technical navigation data allows us to monitor any anomalous access, prevent cyber attacks and keep the site operational.
- Fulfil legal obligations. In specific cases and strictly required by law, we may be required to keep or transmit certain data to the competent authorities.
We never use your data to: send you advertising, assign your information to third parties for commercial purposes, or for any purpose other than those indicated above.
Purposes and legal bases of the Treatment
The personal data of the interested parties are processed by Porto dell’Etna for the following purposes:
Contact forms. We process your data because you chose to contact us. The legal basis is the enforcement of pre-contractual measures taken at the request of the interested party (art. 6, para. 1, lit. b GDPR).
Navigation data. We treat them for our legitimate interest in ensuring the security and proper functioning of the site (art. 6, para. 1, lit. f GDPR). This interest is always balanced with the protection of your privacy.
Optional cookies. For any cookies that are not strictly technical we ask for your explicit consent before activating them (art. 6, para. 1, lit. a GDPR). You can withdraw your consent at any time.
Simply put: we don’t ask for your consent to answer your questions â you request it yourself by writing to us. Consent, on the other hand, is requested only where the law expressly requires it.
How do we process your data?
Your data is mainly processed electronically, with security measures appropriate to the level of risk: encryption, access control, regular backups. Where necessary, processing can also take place in paper form, with the same guarantees of confidentiality.
Only persons expressly authorized by the Owner and bound by confidentiality obligations may access your data. No automated decisions are made that produce legal effects against you, nor is any profiling carried out.
How long do we keep the data?
We do not keep your data longer than necessary. Storage times vary depending on the type:

- Messages from the contact form: Retained for the time necessary to handle your request and, subsequently, for up to 12 months for any subsequent communications. After this period, they are eliminated.
- Navigation data: stored for a few months, the time strictly necessary for technical and safety purposes.
- Data subject to legal obligations: retained for the period provided for by applicable legislation, for example for tax or administrative needs.
- Minimization Principle: We retain your data only for as long as is strictly necessary for the purpose for which we collected it. Nothing more.
- Who do we share your data with? Your data is never sold to anyone. They may, however, be shared, to the extent strictly necessary, with the following parties.
- Providers of technical services, such as the hosting manager or email provider. These entities act as Processors, contractually bound to protect your data and not to use it for purposes other than those indicated.
- Authorized personnel: Porto dell’Etna employees and collaborators who need access to data as part of their duties, all bound by confidentiality obligations.
- Public authorities: law enforcement, judicial, or administrative authorities, exclusively in cases where the law expressly provides for it.
Is your data leaving Europe?
The data you enter in the contact form is stored on servers located within the European Union and is not transferred elsewhere. With regard to third-party services âin particular WhatsApp/Meta â some data may transit to servers located outside the European Economic Area (EEA), including the United States. In these cases, the transfer takes place in compliance with the GDPR, based on adequacy decisions of the European Commission or the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by it (art. 46 GDPR), instruments that guarantee a level of protection equivalent to the European one.
For clarity: our direct part of the treatment âthe one we manageâ always takes place within the European Union.
Your rights
Users may exercise certain rights with reference to the Data processed. In particular, the User has the right to:
- Right of access (art. 15): You can ask us to know exactly what data we have about you, how we use it and how long we keep it. We provide you with a copy upon request.
- Right to rectification (art. 16): If your data is inaccurate or incomplete, you can ask us to correct or update it.
- Right to erasure (art. 17): You can ask us to delete your personal data â the so-called “right to be forgotten” â when it is no longer necessary or if you withdraw your consent, unless legally required to retain it.
- Right of limitation (art. 18): In certain cases, you can ask us to temporarily suspend processing, for example while we verify the correctness of a piece of data you have disputed.
- Right to portability (art. 20): You can receive your data in an electronic format readable by any system, to transfer it to another owner, when processing is based on consent or a contract.
- Right to object (art. 21): You may object to the processing of your data when it is based on our legitimate interest. In that case, we cease processing, unless there are compelling legitimate reasons that override your interests.
- Withdrawal of consent: If you have given consent for a certain treatment, you can withdraw it at any time and without consequences. The revocation does not affect the lawfulness of the processing that took place before the revocation.
- Right to complain (art. 77): You always have the right to file a complaint with the Data Protection Authority, at www.guaranteprivacy.it, if you believe that the processing of your data violates the GDPR.
